Biography

Fr. Geoffrey Young was born (1985) and raised in Saskatoon, SK and an incardinated priest for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon. His family were parishioners of Holy Spirit Parish since moving to the city from their farm south of Kerrobert, SK. After graduating from Holy Cross High School (2003) he began studying Political Science at St. Thomas More College – University of Saskatchewan. After the death of Pope John Paul II (2005), he felt a call to discern the vocation to the priesthood and was accepted by Bishop LeGatt to begin formation at St. Joseph Seminary in Edmonton, Alberta. During this time, he completed a BA (Philosophy) from Concordia University of Edmonton and a MDiv. from Newman Theological College. On May 26, 2010 he was ordained a Deacon and on June 10, 2011 he was ordained to the Ministerial Priesthood by Bishop Bolen.

He then served for two years as parochial vicar at Holy Spirit Parish and priest chaplain at Holy Cross High School. In July 2013 he was appointed as Pastor in rural Saskatchewan for St. Front, Périgord, Rose Valley, Naicam, Nobleville and Archerwill. In 2016 Fr. Young was sent for further studies in Rome. In June 2019 he completed a three-year Licentiate Degree in Sacred Liturgy – graduating Magna Cum Laude from the Pontifical Institute for Liturgy at Sant’Anselmo College, Rome. Returning home he was appointed by Bishop Hagemoen as Pastor for Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Saskatoon and served as chair of Saskatoon’s Diocesan Liturgical Commission (2019-2023). In addition to pastoral ministry, Fr. Young has been an instructor for Newman Theological College (MRE Program) as well as St. Thérèse Institute, Bruno, SK.
